National Do Something Nice Day – Give the Gift of Sleep

oct 5 serving breakfast in bedDid you know today is National Do Something Nice Day?

Held every October 5th, it’s one of the easiest days of the year to celebrate, because there’s no wrong way to do it! All you need to do is step up and think about how you can help someone else have a better day.

And we think there’s no better way to have a good day than to get a good night’s sleep the night beforehand. So here are our favorite ideas for some truly nice things you can do for the people you love to make sure they sleep well and wake up rested and ready to face the day.

Scent Their Sheets

The fresh smell of lavender has long been associated with clean laundry. It’s also a known aromatherapy treatment used to promote relaxation and break from anxiety. To help someone you love unwind in their bedroom, spritz their sheets with a homemade lavender spray. To make it, mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil with 2 tablespoons of alcohol and 6 tablespoons of water. Shake well in a spray bottle and mist over clean sheets. It’s heavenly!

Turn Off the Alarm

If at all possible, ditch the alarm clock for someone you love and let them sleep in. To make this happen, consider making breakfast, getting the kids ready for school making the brown bag lunches in the morning so your loved one doesn’t have to deal with morning chores and can sleep a little longer instead. If you’re already making breakfast, why not grab a tray and serve breakfast in bed? You don’t have to serve fancy food for your loved one to appreciate the luxury of waking up slowly and eating at a relaxed pace before facing the day.

Go Shopping

Sometimes great sleep is a long game. To get the rest you deserve, you may need to overhaul your bed. You can’t exactly surprise someone with a new bed, but you can take your loved one shopping for a new mattress if the old one is no longer up to the task. You might also consider getting a new pillow to support the head and neck. This could be a breakthrough when it comes to getting those all-important eight hours of sleep!

Dress for Success

Do you know someone who sleeps in an old t-shirt or sweatpants with holes in them? Pajamas aren’t always at the top of everyone’s fashion priority list, but that’s exactly why they make a great gift. Replace ratty rags with super-soft pajamas for a little extra comfort and style. Try soft, brushed flannel for cooler weather, or choose breathable cotton if you live somewhere that doesn’t have cold winters. New PJs make a great surprise for anyone, and they’re sure to put a smile on the face of someone you love.

It doesn’t take much to do something nice for someone, and with a little planning, you can turn a regular day in October into something memorable. So what are you waiting for? Try one or two of these ideas to help your favorite people fall asleep — they’ll definitely appreciate it!
